Yashanti Kennels was established formerly in 1985 as Yashanti Giants located at that time in Reisterstown MD, we have been on the move for our full time jobs over the years and the "kennels" and our love of our dogs has obviously moved along with us. We have also been found in Florida, NY, Blairstown NJ, Green Bay WI, Stroudsburg, PA and for the last 3 years here in Alabama. My Daughters and I are members of the Owner Handlers organization (OHA), we have been members in the past of AWA, GSCA, GBKC, FVKC and currently the Birmingham Kennel Club (BKC). We breed only AKC registered dogs, we breed to the breed specific standard and all standards are listed on each of the breed pages. We have co-owned and or bred Top 20 dogs in Whippets, Giant Schnauzers and Irish Wolfhounds. We have finished upwards of 50 champions in multiple breeds in the last decade and we have enjoyed and cherished each and every win, each and every dog, and each and every owner and co-owner. In 2008 one of our goals is to finish a few of our whippets exclusively from the BBE classes and to finish our pepper salt giant schnauzers (We had gotten out of giants for more then 8 years and these represent a whole new era in Yashanti Giants).
When we are not showing, grooming, rescuing, breeding, loving, playing with and otherwise immersing ourselves in our dogs we also have full time careers and three lovely children. My husband Kent is stockroom manager for Banana Republic here locally and also works part-time at Whole Foods (so we are well dressed and well fed LOL). Prior to this Kent was owner operator of a 75 run boarding and grooming kennel when we lived in Maryland and has managed our dogs and our breeding programs for the last 17 years. I am Director of the Furniture Division of Corporate Express here in the GA AL and TN markets. I have been in Office furniture for over 28 years. My "job" if you can call it that with the dogs is the grooming, showing, the genealogy and pedigree studies and the health studies for our dogs. Additionally the placement of each pup in exactly the right home falls to me. I have a talent for this, just as I have a talent in my work life to hire the right people for the right positions to insure success. I do not take this talent for granted and I treasure it in both respects everyday.
We now have puppy owners in nearly all states of the Continental US and several overseas. The Internet has opened to all of us a whole new world of access to services and people that 15 years ago we had not ever dreamed of, but this makes the responsibility of placement even more critical. Be patient with us while we decide if you are the right home for one of our dogs or one of the dogs we rescue. Anticipate and long standing relationship as we eventually touch base with all of our dog owners yearly. As always you are encouraged and welcome to visit us at anytime. You must call to make an appointment because we are a home NOT a commercial kennel. our dogs live indoors with us as part of our family and are not on display in runs that you can walk past and see. You will meet each one either individually or in a pack and we will immerse you in your selected breed so that you can experience them up close and personally before your make your decision.
